We wanted to test how effective a robot vacuum cleaner really is and even though we like cleaning, it’s good to know how effective a robot vacuum cleaner actually is... and we were, to say the least, impressed! This is a review of how well the Roborock Q7 Max robot vacuum cleaner manages to make vacuuming a flat initially easier, and it should handle larger areas even better. The test was carried out in a flat of about 50 sqm with two cats and tight spaces, so the need for vacuuming is quite high. The initial question was whether you can completely avoid traditional vacuuming. We’ll start with the results as that’s the most interesting part, then move on to installation and small features, and last but not least, the final rating.

8 out of 10 possible points for vacuuming

Roborock Q7 Max starts easily and is barely audible at all in the standard setting with “medium” suction. We have not yet tested the highest suction frequency, but then you can expect a higher noise from the Roborock Q7 Max.

At startup, the robot begins to locate walls; we immediately noticed it started pushing the cats’ small feeding bowls forward, but since we monitored this, we could easily move them so the robot vacuum cleaner could work freely.

NOTE, since it pushed the feeding bowls forward and thus against the wall, it can become somewhat problematic, especially if one of the bowls contains some water and they are not stable. I mainly mean that the robot vacuum cleaner can actually knock over the bowl and spill water on the floor, NOT GOOD.

After that, the robot vacuum cleaner cleaned along all the edges in the home effectively and thanks to its low height, it easily goes under the sofa and dressers.

It became problematic when the robot vacuum tried to clean around the absolutely most important place in the home according to us, that is, around the litter tray and cat mat. The robot vacuum moves onto the mat and tries to reach the surfaces, the motor automatically increases as it detects more power is needed, but still, it doesn’t pick up exactly everything around it.

We therefore had to shake off the mat and let it vacuum there once more.

The vacuum then continued into the bedroom and here the vacuum also ran into a problem: the brush roller picked up the iPhone cable and we had to pause the vacuum to retrieve it. Oops.

Around the bed, we also have a bed skirt hanging down to the floor; the vacuum does not detect that it can go underneath, which is understandable, but it is also a space you actually want cleaned? Initially, we felt “oh, how nice not to have to vacuum under the sofa, bed and around the litter tray,” but two of three challenges are a bit too much with the type of furnishing we have today.

The vacuum then continued to the living room and onto the mat, and here you are impressed! It very quickly senses the mat and increases the suction directly and the result is surprisingly good. It looks well vacuumed and really meets expectations here.

After this, the robot vacuum arrives in the kitchen and dining chairs, it bumps gently into them and navigates as well as it can around and into the spaces it can reach.

It then continues along the kitchen edge and does an exemplary job on this area, easily picking up dirt from the floor.

Finally, when it has gone along all the routes in the home, it moves faster; now it knows the layout and follows the rooms back and forth in straight lines. 10 minutes later and everything is finished!

Tips for vacuuming with a robot vacuum cleaner

There are essentially two important tips to keep in mind before starting the robot vacuum.

The first is to tidy up properly before you want to vacuum, in the same way you might normally tidy up when vacuuming yourself. If you don’t, the vacuum may suck up the iPhone cable and then you’ll be at work thinking “how nice it is to have the floor vacuumed at home” but it won’t be because of a cable.

The second tip is to set the area you want the vacuum to clean, maybe there are some spaces you don't want cleaned just this day.

Why choose the Roborock Q7 Max?

We chose the Roborock Q7 Max partly because of the price. We ordered it for about 2400 SEK, which felt like a very good price. But the main reason was actually that our supplier of cleaning materials recommended this particular robot vacuum cleaner and spoke very highly of it.

Whether it is the best robot vacuum cleaner on the market, I doubt, but considering the price and if you live in a house and possibly need one upstairs and one downstairs, this is a cost-effective option. Of course, you can book home cleaning in Stockholm from us, but whether you have home cleaning every week or not, the floor gets dirty after a few days if you have pets at home.

Common questions about the robot vacuum cleaner

Here’s the thing, the robotic vacuum cleaner is a very good complement to regular cleaning but you still need to vacuum between chairs if you haven’t lifted them up or move things that you otherwise can’t reach.

What is a bit unfortunate about this is that the regular vacuum cleaner still has to come out, or you have cleaning at home every week, every other week, or every fourth week and use the robotic vacuum as a complement so you don’t have to bring out the vacuum yourself.

We hope the above post was worth reading based on our own experiences! If you want more help with thorough home cleaning or deep cleaning in everyday life, you are warmly welcome to contact us and we will help you with cleaning of world-class quality!

I’ll actually have to get back to you on that later, we haven’t tested it yet.

No, you should be very careful with wet surfaces as it can damage the electronics.

There are definitely affordable options; I would mainly search for “affordable robot vacuum cleaner” on Google. The range is constantly updated with new products and better prices.

You can easily set in the Roborock app which areas should be cleaned and which should not.

I can summarise it very, very briefly so you understand how simple it is provided you have some smartphone knowledge.

  1. Take the robot vacuum cleaner out of the packaging
  2. Plug it into the charging socket
  3. Download the Roborock app
  4. Scan the QR code on the inside of the Roborock machine’s lid
  5. Sync with the existing network
  6. Synced and ready – START

That’s roughly how I experienced connecting and starting up the vacuum cleaner. Smooth and very easy.

The robot vacuum cleaner can cope with thresholds, but they should not be too high. Generally, I would say that 15mm or 1.5 cm is the maximum to get onto the next surface.
