How you should proceed to clean the hob mainly depends on what type of stove you have.
Most homes are equipped with either an induction hob, a glass hob, or a gas hob. All these hobs require slightly different methods to become really clean. Additionally, it's important to use the right products so as not to permanently damage the hob.
One might wonder why it isn't enough to just quickly wipe the stove clean after use. The main reason is that the hob can actually suffer damage from careless cleaning.
Even though you may think you're helping, too vigorous cleaning can scratch your hob and in the worst case cause it to break. With our tips, you can take care of your hob properly and extend its lifespan.
First and foremost – don't wait too long to clean your induction hob or glass-ceramic hob. If it has become too dirty, it’s easy to be too rough and scratch the hob. However, if you are diligent about regular maintenance, cleaning an induction hob is quite straightforward.
1. Remove spills immediately
The key to making cleaning as easy as possible is not to let dirt burn on until the next time you use the stove. Spills are part of everyday life and unfortunately can't be completely avoided.
Many believe that food residues cannot burn onto an induction hob because it cools down so quickly, but they can! When you have accidentally soiled the stove, you can easily remove it with a damp sponge and some washing-up liquid. Then wipe with a microfiber cloth.
2. Hob cleaner for stains
The most effective way to remove stains from the stove is to use a product specially designed for the purpose. Start by wiping the stove and then apply some hob cleaner onto the hob using a damp sponge.
Polish the surface in circular motions and let the product work for about 5-10 minutes. Wipe the hob with a damp cloth and then dry it with a dry cloth for an extra shiny result.
3. Use a hob scraper
If you cannot remove burnt-on stains and deposits with the above methods, you can use a hob scraper. As the name suggests, a hob scraper is used to gently scrape away stubborn stains. It is important to ensure the blade is sharp enough – otherwise, you risk scratching your hob.

4. Avoid burnt-on stains with Keramikrent
Once you've taken the time to clean the hob, there are some tricks to keep it as clean as possible. The best is to wipe the stove preferably after each use. Another way to protect your stove from stains is to use, for example, Mr Muscle Keramikrent.
For the best effect, apply the product on a cleaned surface in circular motions. Afterpolish the stove with kitchen paper to get a shiny result.
It's good to remember that each time you wipe the stove with a damp cloth, part of the burnt-on protection disappears. It is not possible to avoid wet wiping completely of course, but then remember to reapply the product for increased protection.
5. Environmentally friendly stove cleaning with vinegar and bicarbonate
If you want to avoid strong cleaning agents, you can make your own hob cleaner. You need a spray bottle, about 400 ml water, 100 ml 24% vinegar, and 2 tablespoons bicarbonate of soda. Spray the mixture on the hob and wipe with a damp cloth. Preferably use the spray after each use to clean the hob without chemicals.
If you have an older stove with a cast iron hob, it may take more time to get it completely clean. Because the surface is not completely smooth, grease and food residues stick more easily. Here are some practical tips on how to clean these types of hobs most easily.
1. Water and dish soap against grease
You'll get far with good old dish soap. With the help of a wet sponge and a few drops of washing-up liquid, you can remove grease stains without problems. You do have to scrub thoroughly – don't be afraid to apply some effort!
2. Clean around the plates with steel wool
Svinto is your best friend when it comes to cleaning the metal rings around cast iron plates. Here you need to scrub the dirt off by applying quite a bit of force.
A stove with a gas hob can be more challenging to clean and keep clean because it is not completely smooth. If you have a gas stove with a steel base, it is easier to clean but requires more polishing to make the surface look clean.
1. Clean the burners
Remove the burners and place them in a bowl of hot water with a few drops of washing-up liquid. Leave for about 15-30 minutes. Scrub clean with a sponge and dry thoroughly. The burners must be completely dry before you put them back.
2. Use a specially designed cleaner
While the burners are soaking in the water mixture, you can clean the rest of the stove. This is easiest done using a special cleaner, such as Cif Power & Shine Kitchen.
Spray the cleaner evenly over the entire surface and then scrub with a sponge. Now all stains should disappear in a flash! Afterpolish with a dry microfiber cloth. Done!
It's not easy to manage cleaning the entire home. Often there's a lot to remember, everything from cleaning the oven to cleaning the shower.
